Taylor Grubbs is an audio engineer at heart. As a high school student with an interest in recording, he built his first home studio in the basement of his mom’s house in Missouri. That’s where Taylor started to develop a self-taught knowledge of engineering before he broadened his attention to the local school district where he began engineering band and choir concerts.
Taylor made the move to Nashville to attend Belmont University, where he received a degree in Audio Engineering Technology from the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business. Outside class he spent time working at The Carport studio, continuing to learn the ropes from Russ Long (Wilco, Over the Rhine, Amy Grant, Kopecky Family Band). [Insert Russ Quote.] Taylor recently returned to The Carport to engineer and co-produce “Music City Unsigned Family Christmas 2” with many of Nashville’s best emerging artists, such as The Vespers, Humming House and Andrew Ripp.
In the Spring of 2011, Taylor began a partnership with Musicians Corner in Centennial Park where he has been multi-tracking main stage acts for a series of fundraising compilation albums. Taylor has since recorded over 50 artists including Matthew Perryman Jones, Drew & Ellie Holcomb, Gabe Dixon, Nathan Angelo, Madi Diaz, Ben Sollee, Daniel Ellsworth and The Great Lakes, American Idol’s Melinda Doolittle and folk legend Nanci Griffith.
“Taylor’s engineering expertise extend beyond the technical into the creative. He has producers instincts and a passionate charm that will take him far in this town.”
-Justin Tam (Humming House, Music City Unsigned, and Musician’s Corner)
With a natural talent for audio engineering and experience tracking and mixing in-studio performances and live shows for artists of various genres, Taylor is quickly becoming a sought after engineer at studios and music events across Nashville.
